But the two vastly different sports met when Indian fencer Bhavani Devi and former cricketer Rahul Dravid hit it off at a sporting event in 2015, where he played mentor to Bhavani and other athletes.

“He [Dravid] was very patient. He heard us out and then gave his inputs. He made us feel so comfortable. I respect him for his down-to-earth personality. It has taught me a lot about being a successful sport star,” the silver medallist fencer said.

Another sporting star from the South resonated with Devi for his “grounded personality” – badminton player HS Prannoy. Devi described their chance meeting at Chennai during a game as “inspiring” and a lesson in “dealing with the limelight”
