Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee died on Sunday (March 29), after an accidental drowning at Talsari Beach in Digha, near the Odisha-West Bengal border. He was 43. The news of his sudden death has left the Bengali entertainment industry and his fans in deep shock, with many taking to social media to express grief and disbelief.

Rahul Arunoday Banerjee dies at 43

He had travelled to the coastal town for the shooting of a Bengali television serial titled Bhole Baba Par Karega. Filming had reportedly begun on Sunday morning and continued through the day without incident. According to preliminary information, the tragedy unfolded shortly after the crew wrapped up shooting in the afternoon.

Reports suggest that Banerjee entered the sea alone after pack-up. Members of the production team soon realised he was missing and raised an alarm when they could no longer see him in the water. Several crew members, who had been on the shore, witnessed the situation and rushed to help as panic spread across the set.

Technicians and unit members managed to pull the actor out of the water and immediately arranged for medical assistance. He was rushed to Digha Sub-divisional Hospital, located around 10 to 12 kilometres from Talsari Beach. Despite efforts to save him, doctors declared him dead at 6:10 pm. Initial reports confirmed drowning as the cause of death, though further procedures were expected to follow as part of standard protocol.

The actor is survived by his wife, actor Priyanka Sarkar, and their son. His passing has been particularly painful for the Bengali film fraternity, where he was known not only for his performances but also for his thoughtful public persona and long association with theatre and cinema.
