Raghuram Rajan turns 53, no lavish parties for the RBI boss
Raghuram Rajan turns 53 today, but those who know him say there's little chance that the RBI Governor will throw an elaborate birthday bash. In 2015, Rajan had a busy day, announcing policy decisions, including a status quo on the interest rates. The headlines last year ruefully noted that there was "no party in store for the markets" on the RBI Guv's birthday. When reporters wished him at the press briefing, he merely smiled and didn't reply.

This year, Rajan has already stated his views on extravagant bashes, albeit for defaulters like Vijay Mallya, who threw an extravagant 60th birthday party despite owing banks Rs 7,500 crore. "If you flaunt your birthday bashes even while owing the system a lot of money, it does seem to suggest to the public that you don't care. I think that is the wrong message to send. If you are in trouble, you should be cutting down your expenses," he said on January 22.

Yet another reason why his many well-wishers feel that none can hold a candle to him. Happy birthday, Guv'nor.
