Recently, Ishank Singh created history with his Palk Strait swim. The seven-year-old swimmer successfully crossed the 29-kilometre stretch of water, completing an open-water swim from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu. With this, he has emerged as one of the youngest swimmers to accomplish the feat, marking a significant moment in the world of endurance sports.
Resharing the news reported by All India Radio, R. Madhavan posted about the achievement on his Instagram Story and extended his congratulations to the young swimmer. He also reflected on the importance of encouraging more young individuals to take on such challenges, linking these experiences directly to the shaping of character and inner strength.
About Ishank Singh's historic feat
On April 30, Singh became the youngest to swim across the Palk Strait, completing the distance in a record time of 9 hours and 50 minutes. The strait, located between India and Sri Lanka, is widely known for its difficult conditions, including strong ocean currents, unpredictable waves, and rapidly changing weather patterns. Despite these challenges, Singh navigated the route successfully, swimming from Talaimannar to Dhanushkodi with remarkable focus and endurance.Ishank Singh is a swimming prodigy from Dhurwa in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He is currently a class 3 student at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali. As per reports, he trained for 4-5 hours daily at the Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi, under the guidance of his coaches. His routine was designed to gradually build stamina and prepare him for the physical and mental demands of long-distance open-water swimming.
