Who Was Honore De Balzac?

One of the most celebrated literary figures in France, Balzac is often credited as one of the founders of introducing realism in English literature. Several of his novels - The Human Comedy, Eugénie Grandet, The Wild Ass's Skin dealt with layered characters, who are morally ambiguous and multi-faceted. His writing influenced many famous writers, including the novelists Émile Zola, Charles Dickens, Marcel Proust, Gustave Flaubert etc.

Throughout much of his life, Honoré de Balzac struggled with recurring health issues, a condition often attributed to his demanding writing routine and relentless work habits.

In 1850, after a long and devoted courtship, Balzac married the love of his life- Ewelina Hańska, a Polish noblewoman. However, their bliss was incredibly short-lived as just six months after their wedding the author breathed his last.
