Punjabi actress and athlete Daljeet Kaur passes away at 69; Mika Singh, Satish Shah pay tributes

Veteran Punjabi actress Daljeet Kaur breathed her last on Thursday, November 17. She was 69. Amar Ujala, a Hindi language daily newspaper reported that the ‘Putt Jattan De’ star was cremated on that day as well. Her last rites were held at 1:00 pm in Ludhiana.
An alumnus of the prestigious Lady Sri Ram College (LSR) college and FTII (Film & Television Industry ) Pune, Kaur’s illustrious filmography includes more than 70 Punjabi movies and 10 Hindi films. She made her debut in the year 1976 with the film, ‘Daaj’. She headlined several blockbusters such as, ‘Putt Jattan De’, ‘Mamla Gadbad Hai’, ‘Ki Banu Duniya Da’, ‘Sarpanch’, ‘Patola’ etc.
Kaur took a long hiatus from showbiz after the death of her husband actor Harminder Singh Deol. The latter died in a road accident. However, in 2001, Kaur made a decision to come back to acting. She played Gippy Grewal’s mother in the 2013 romantic comedy, ‘Singh vs Kaur’.
Apart from being an actress, Kaur was also a successful athlete. She has been a National level Hockey and Kabaddi player.
According to her cousin Harinder Singh Khangura, Kaur was battling serious health problems for many years. She had been suffering from a brain tumour for the past three years. As her health deteriorated, she shifted base from Mumbai to Gurusar Ludhiana. In her last days, Kaur was said to have been in a coma.
Singer Mika Singh took to Twitter to pay tribute to the star. He wrote, “The beautiful Actress, Legend of Punjab #Daljeetkaur has sadly left us with her beautiful memories. May god bless her soul and she rest in eternal peace.

Actor Satish Shah who was her batchmate at FTII, also mourned the loss, “A dear friend and batchmate Daljeet Kaur the Punjabi lead girl of yesteryears passed away on 17th this month. May her soul find eternal peace.FTII 1976 batch.”
