Kailash Desai, MD, Endress+Hauser India, discusses the relevance of Endress+Hauser Innovations, technology and products, and digitalisation in today’s process automation.

Tell us about Endress+Hauser’s entry into India and its pan-India expansion since 1994.
Endress+Hauser opened its branch office in Mumbai in 1994, and the registered office in 1999. The co-factories for flow measuring instruments in Aurangabad were founded in early 2000s. At present, we have nine regional offices and several branch offices across the country.

We started a level and pressure measuring instruments factory in 2007. Then in 2009, we started a temperature facility. Over the past decade, we have grown tremendously, and continue to invest in India. We recently acquired companies in the gas and lab analysis space.


Which are the focus strategic industries for Endress+Hauser India?
We offer comprehensive process solutions for measurement of flow, level, pressure, analysis, temperature, including registration and digital communications, across a wide range of industries. Our offerings optimise process efficiency, provide safe operations and help protect the environment. The core industries catered by us are: water and waste water, oil and gas, food and beverage, life sciences, power, energy and chemicals, including petrochemicals.

What have been the key drivers for your growth?
Endress+Hauser was founded in 1953 by Swiss engineer Georg H Endress and German banker Ludwig Hauser. As a family-owned company, we act responsibly. We treat our customers, employees and shareholders as partners. Profit is not the ultimate aim, but the result of good management. Our earnings are reinvested in the company to ensure our continued success and independence.

What role does digitalisation play in your innovations today?
Digitalisation plays an important role today. Our customers have realised that the industrial internet of things (IIoT) is changing the value chains. A new degree of transparency makes it possible to optimise processes and gain in efficiency. Predictive maintenance, asset information management and device configuration are some examples of the opportunities digitalisation has in store for companies.
