Priyanka Chopra recalls the parenting advice that helped her through setbacks
When people talk about success, they often skip the messy parts in between. Actor and global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas has spoken openly about those difficult phases, especially the moments when things don’t go as planned. In one of her media interactions, she shared a piece of advice rooted in her upbringing that, according to her, helped her deal with some of the lowest points in life.

A lesson that stayed through tough times

Talking about failure and how people react to it, she once said in an interview, "The world when you fail will kick you even more because that's the nature of the human being. At that time when you are at the bottom, when you are alone, isolated and you're kicking. Can you find your value at that time, when you look in the mirror and that's what my parents taught me."

She connected this directly to what she learned growing up. Her parents, both doctors in the Indian Army, raised her in an environment where self-worth wasn’t supposed to depend on outside validation. That thinking, she said, becomes most important when things are not working out.

Expanding on that idea, she added, "From when I was very young. Yeah even when you're down in the bottom you have to pick yourself up. You have to, even if it hurts stand up because God has given us this amazing thing called life and it is not to be wasted, it is not to be taken for granted and it is not to live in sorrow and you know wallow in self-pity."

The way she put it was simple, not motivational in a loud way, but more like something you tell yourself quietly when things are not going right. The emphasis stayed on getting back up, even when it feels uncomfortable or unfair.

A journey shaped by ups and downs

Her own career has seen that pattern. Before becoming a global name, she had phases where projects did not work. Films like Love Story 2050 and Big Brother did not perform well, and for a while, things slowed down. But she managed to return with stronger roles, including Fashion, which brought her critical recognition again.

Over time, she built a career across industries, from Hindi cinema to international projects like Quantico and Baywatch. That shift itself came with challenges, from adapting to a new audience to dealing with criticism and public scrutiny.

More than just a success story

Born in Jamshedpur in 1982 to army doctors, Priyanka Chopra grew up moving across cities like Delhi, Bareilly, and Ladakh. She also spent time studying in the United States before returning to India. Initially, she had plans outside acting, including engineering and psychology, but her entry into modelling changed that path.

Winning the Miss World title in 2000 gave her a platform, but what followed was not always smooth. There were career risks, setbacks, and constant reinvention. Over the years, she has also taken on roles beyond acting, including film production and social work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
