Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's hopes of rebuilding their relationship with the British royal family appear to face another hurdle. Prince William, who has remained distant from his younger brother since the Sussexes stepped away from royal duties, is reportedly unwilling to reopen the door to reconciliation. The latest claims come amid renewed attention on the royal family's strained relationships, with Prince Harry expressing a desire to repair ties with his relatives. However, reports suggest that Prince William's position remains unchanged, particularly when it comes to his brother and sister-in-law.

Prince William's stance on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

According to a report by The Mirror, sources close to the Prince of Wales have indicated that he does not see a future relationship with Harry, either privately or professionally. The development follows Harry's public comments about wanting to resolve the family dispute. In an interview with GQ, the Duke of Sussex said, “Some people don't want it to work out. I want it to work out.”

Prince Harry also spoke about the lasting impact of family disagreements, adding that “scars stick around forever”. His comments were not intended as a direct criticism of William, according to a spokesperson for the Sussexes.

Why Prince William and Prince Harry are still estranged

The brothers' relationship has been strained for years, particularly after Harry and Meghan left their roles as working royals in 2020 and moved to California. Their differences became more public after the couple's 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, their Netflix documentary and Harry's memoir Spare, published in 2023.

In the book, Harry described a heated argument with William in 2019, alleging that his brother physically attacked him after criticising Meghan. William's office has not publicly commented on the allegation. The dispute has also affected the relationship between Meghan and the wider royal family, with the Duchess of Sussex previously speaking about her difficult experiences within the institution.

Prince William and King Charles share the same view

While Prince Harry has made some progress in rebuilding his relationship with King Charles, his bond with William reportedly remains broken. Royal author Russell Myers told People that the King and his heir are “completely united” on the Sussexes not representing the royal family. Myers added that William's view was clear: “Looking toward the future, he will have no relationship with them, in a working or private capacity whatsoever.”

Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reconcile with the Royal family?

Prince Harry has continued to express a desire to repair his family relationships, while Meghan has largely remained focused on her life and projects in California. The Sussexes' return to the UK has brought renewed attention to the family rift, but there has been no confirmed breakthrough between the brothers. While Harry has spoken openly about wanting to move forward, Prince William's reported position suggests that the divide may take much longer to heal.
