Prince of Udaipur lights 2203 solar lamps in a record-breaking art display. Who is Lakshyaraj Singh?

On January 29, the largest display of solar powered lamps is 2,203 and was achieved by Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar (India) in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India on 29 January 2025. He, along with his team, created a huge art display of the Sun along with the words, “Suryoday”, which means sunrise. This was created to raise awareness. But who is Lakshyaraj Singh and what was the record all about?

A video was shared by the Guinness World Records on Instagram where it can be seen that after the sunset many people gathered at a spot with small lamps in their hands. What would initially look like some kind of protest quickly turned into a huge art display with a social message. As people arranged the lamps, an elevated shot shows the formation of the Sun and the word Suryoday.



In the comment section, the official account of the world record shared, “The solar lantern display, which includes the word 'sunrise', was created to raise awareness of the importance of solar powered lamps and the positive impact it can have on the environment and for disadvantaged people in India”. The internet was left in awe. A user wrote, “Congrats on solar power!” Another added, “This is illuminating” while another called it “amazing.”

Who Is Lakshyaraj Singh ?

Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar is a descendant of the 1,500-year-old House of Mewar in Udaipur. The only son of Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar and Smt. Vijayraj Kumari Mewar, he studied at Mayo College, Ajmer, before earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School in Australia. According to his website, he has worked as a waiter and barista at the Four Seasons Hotel and various cafes in Australia. After returning to Udaipur, he joined the family business, leading the refurbishment of the iconic Jagmandir Island Palace as his first major project.
