Actor Preity Zinta recently captivated audiences at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. However, it wasn’t just her stunning appearance that drew attention. Her accent during the event sparked a lively debate on social media, with many questioning why she seemed to adopt a "fake accent."

Preity Zinta graced the Cannes red carpet in a sequined pink saree paired with a matching blouse, designed by Seema Gujral. She completed her look with large earrings and wore her hair down. Interacting with fans, she signed autographs and took selfies, with footage shared by Brut India on Instagram.

While her outfit was widely praised, her accent was not. Social media users were quick to criticize, asking why she felt the need to change her accent. One user commented, "I am perplexed as to why Indians modify their accents when in foreign lands. It comes across as disingenuous." Another added, "Why do you all fake your accent? Just stay and talk the way you are!"

The reactions were mixed, with some supporting Preity. A fan noted, "She's been living in America with her American husband for a long time. People should stop judging her accent. Before her appearance in the pink saree, Preity was seen in a white gown with minimal makeup, her hair styled in a bun. She attended Cannes to present the Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens in Cinematography award to cinematographer Santosh Sivan, with whom she worked on her debut film, 'Dil Se.'

Preity made her Cannes debut in 2006, attending the premieres of 'The Wind That Shakes The Barley' and 'Paris, Je T'aime.' She returned in 2013 as a brand ambassador for Chopard.

Preity Zinta's Upcoming Projects

Preity is set to return to the silver screen in 'Lahore 1947,' directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced under Aamir Khan's banner. The film also stars Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol.
