Preity Zinta revealed she tried IVF before welcoming her twins via surrogacy: ‘I just wanted to bang my head….’

Preity Zinta became a mother to twins Jai and Gia via surrogacy in 2021. She was 46 at that time. In a 2024 interview with Vogue, the Veer Zaara star opened up about her journey with infertility and how despite being a born optimist, she struggled with mental health when her IVF attempts did not succeed. She revealed she hit an all-time low when she was going through IVF cycles, and sometimes, she would hit her head on a wall and cry. She openly admitted that it is not possible to be cheerful and light-hearted all the time, especially when you are facing hurdles in your life.

“I have good days and bad days just like everyone else. Sometimes it’s a struggle to always be happy-go-lucky in real life, especially when you’re going through a tough phase. I used to feel like that during my IVF cycles,” she revealed. “It was very difficult to be smiley and nice all the time. Sometimes I just wanted to bang my head on the wall and cry or not talk to anybody,” she admitted candidly.

Zinta welcomed twins with her husband, Gene Goodenough, in 2021 through surrogacy. The ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ star shared the good news on her Instagram page, and thanked her doctors and surrogate for naking her dream of being a mother come true.


“A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and our surrogate for being part of this incredible journey. Loads of love and light – Gene, Preity, Jai and Gia. #gratitude#family #twins,” she wrote.

On the work front, Zinta was last seen in the period drama Batwara 1947, which also marked her comeback to Bollywood after an eight-year hiatus. The movie was co-written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan.

Starring Sunny Deol Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare, Kanikka Kapur, and Isha Sandhir, the film is set in Lahore during the 1947 Partition of British India and the division of Punjab. The drama Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai by Asghar Wajahat served as the inspiration for the movie. Despite having a huge budget of Rs 150 crore, the movie only made Rs 49 crore at the box office.
