#PrayforNeasamani stirs meme fest on social media; Twitterati wants to know who Neasamani is

The hashtag #Pray_for_Neasamani soon got North Indians to worry about the health of a Tamil celebrity.

Twitter, on Wednesday morning, was all about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony. While the newly-elected PM continued to hold a position in the top trends on the micro-blogging site, a meme emerged out of nowhere and stirred a storm. The hashtag "Pray_for_Neasamani" soon got others to worry about the health of a Tamil celebrity. Non-Tamilians took to Twitter to find out who Neasamani is. Little did they know that Neasamani was a character from a 2001 Tamil film 'Friends'.

Neasamani, a painting contractor played by actor Vadivelu, gets injured after Krishnamoorthy, played by Ramesh Khanna, accidentally drops a hammer on his head. Soon, the meme took Twitterati on a laughter riot. However, this is not where it ends. Some Tamilians even demanded Krishnamoorthy's arrest for hurting Neasamani.

'Rang De Basanti' actor Siddharth, took part in the quirky meme row. The actor wrote that he is 'happy' to hear that the government has a new job for Neasamani.

Some users took it to another level and said that a petition has indeed been filed demanding the Communists to drop the hammer from their election symbol as it caused Neasamani pain.

Twitter's recent move of removing millions of suspicious account in its battle against fake new has led to many celebrities, politicians and social media influencers losing followers.

The move didn't spare Twitter's own account either, as the social media's official handle lost about 12 percent of its total followers - about 7.7 million.
