Pratyusha Banerjee's boyfriend booked on charges of abetment to suicide

MUMBAI: Mumbai Police has booked deceased actress Pratyusha Banerjee's boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh on charges of abetment to suicide on Tuesday.

Singh has been booked under Section 306 and Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code.

The case was registered by police in Bangur Nagar after the victim's mother Soma Banerjee gave a fresh statement implicating Singh in her daughter's suicide, said Mumbai police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni.

Rahul Raj Singh -- who was interrogated by police for two days after Pratyusha's suicide on April 1 -- is presently undergoing treatment in a suburban hospital for the past two days.

He is likely to be arrested after his discharge from hospital in a day or so.
He was earlier quizzed extensively by a team of the Mumbai Police on Saturday. Singh was later hospitalised after he complained of chest pain and breathlessness.

Meanwhile, Banerjee's friends from the television industry, rallying in their support for her, have claimed that she was too strong a personality to commit suicide.

Earlier on Sunday, a few of Pratyusha's industry friends - including Kamya Punjabi, Adah Khan and Vikas Gupta - at a press conference had mentioned that there were differences among the couple which had led to a strain in their relationship.

The 24-year-old former 'Balika Vadhu' star was found hanging at her home in Mumbai on April 1, in a suspected case of suicide.
