The Malayalam political thriller Prathichaya, starring Nivin Pauly and directed by B Unnikrishnan, is now ready for its digital release after a modest run in theatres. The film, which hit cinemas on March 26, 2026, is now moving to OTT, giving audiences another chance to catch the political drama from home. The makers have officially confirmed the streaming details along with the release date.

Prathichaya OTT Release Date and Streaming Platform

Prathichaya will begin streaming on April 24, 2026. The film will be available exclusively on JioHotstar, as confirmed by the platform through an official announcement on social media. The update described the film with themes of power, politics, and drama, hinting at its intense narrative tone.

This digital release comes almost a month after its theatrical debut, following what was described across reports as a lukewarm response at the box office.

Story: Politics, Family and a Crisis of Power

The story of Prathichaya is set in an alternate political setup in Kerala. It revolves around a powerful ruling party led by K N Varghese (Balachandra Menon), a leader seen as both influential and controversial due to corruption allegations.

Varghese’s elder son, Tobin (Nishanth Sagar), is already active in politics as a Member of Parliament. However, his attention is on his younger son John (Nivin Pauly), whom he considers the more capable heir. John, on the other hand, is not interested in politics and is focused on building his tech startup and moving abroad with his wife.


Things change when a major political scandal hits the family. Forced by circumstances, John steps into the political space and begins dealing with pressure from media, party politics, and internal conflicts. His journey forms the core of the film as he tries to protect his father’s image while facing a growing conspiracy.

Sharaf U Dheen plays Ravi Madhavan, a media baron whose role deepens the political tension and investigation angle in the story. The film also features Harisree Ashokan, Ann Augustine, Saikumar, and Vishnu Agasthya in important roles.

Box Office Performance and Cast

At the box office, Prathichaya had a slow start. It reportedly opened at around ₹65 lakh on day one and reached approximately ₹1.99 crore net in India by the end of its early run. Despite a slightly improved second and third day, the film could not maintain momentum and ended with average overall collections.

The film is directed by B Unnikrishnan and produced by Gokulam Gopalan under Sree Gokulam Movies along with RD Illuminations LLP. Music is composed by Justin Varghese, with cinematography by Chandru Selvaraj and editing by Manoj. The technical team also includes production design by Shajie Naduvil and action choreography by Real Sathish and Mafia Sasi.
