Porsche launches its most-expensive sports car 911 GT2 RS at Rs 3.83 cr

MUMBAI: Volkswagen Group owned sports car brand Porsche on Tuesday launched its most expensive car on the Indian roads - the 911 GT2 RS - at Rs 3.83 crore, ex-showroom Mumbai.

The GT2 RS, which boasts a top speed of 340 kilometers per hour and can hit 0-100 kmph in 2.8 seconds is already sold out for the year.


Designed after taking cues from the race car experience, the GT2-RS is powered by a 3.8 litre bi-turbo engine which delivers 700 bhp of power and 750 Nm of torque. Porsche claims this car is a ‘thoroughbred race car’ as it weighs only 1,470 kg and has completed a lap the legendary Nurburgring race track in a record time of 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds.

Garnering over 65% of its sales from SUVs, Porsche says there is a growing demand for true-blue sports cars in the country.

“This year is very important for us. There could not have been a better time to launch a new 911, the car which gave Porsche its identity,” Pavan Shetty, Director of Porsche India, said at the launch event at the Porsche dealership in Mumbai.

Shetty added, “We are seeing an increasing demand for true sports cars in India, and with vehicles like the 911 GT2 RS, we are confident Porsche is well placed to meet that demand.”

Talking about the shifting preferences of buyers towards performance-oriented cars in India, Shetty told ET, “Last year we sold the 718 sports car in triple-digit numbers. We have never sold Cayenne-turbo in the numbers we are selling today. Porsche as a brand is getting its portfolio right.”

Porsche which launched the Panamera hybrid earlier in the year will be adding Cayenne hybrid to its portfolio in the second half of the year to sustain the growth momentum for the brand.

While Shetty is non-committal on numbers, the company is likely to hold on to its sales numbers of last year in the range of 400-500 cars despite shortage in supply.
