Gut issues are more common than many people realise. They can affect everything from digestion to mood, often incurring in long-term health woes. Everyday factors such as stress, irregular eating habits, lack of sleep, or unhealthy food choices can lead to stomach issues like bloating, acidity, constipation, or cramps. While occasional discomfort is normal and can be curbed with medicine, frequent gut troubles can signal that the digestive system needs better care. But the good news is that simple lifestyle habits, including eating balanced meals, staying hydrated, and consuming fibre-rich foods, can reverse the problems.

Nutritionist on gut problems

If you are also someone who faces gut problems from time to time, then nutritionist Lovneet Batra might have some tips for you. The dietician has recently dropped a video on Instagram, sharing the recipe of 2 functional drinks that she claims can be added to your diet to say goodbye to gut symptoms and promote a better gut lining.

According to Lovneet Batra, several gut symptoms don’t just arise from poor digestion. Sometimes, factors like hydration, mucosal protection, and certain phytochemicals support the integrity of the intestinal lining and gut function. The two drinks, infused with the goodness of nutritional ingredients that she recommends, are an aloe vera-coconut drink and licorice–fennel tea. What’s interesting is that both of them can be easily prepared at home.

Aloe–coconut gut soothing drink

This drink is a refreshing blend designed to support digestive comfort and hydration. It is made using about 200 ml of coconut water, two tablespoons of fresh aloe vera gel, and some mint leaves. The ingredients must be mixed for around 10–15 seconds and consumed fresh. Each component contributes to gut wellness in its own way.

Aloe vera contains naturally occurring polysaccharides such as acemannan, associated with supporting intestinal mucosal integrity and reducing inflammation in the digestive tract. Coconut water provides essential electrolytes and hydration, both of which are important for maintaining normal gastrointestinal function. Meanwhile, mint leaves add a cooling flavour while also offering menthol, a compound that helps to relax gastrointestinal smooth muscles.

Together, these ingredients create a light, calming drink that aids in soothing the digestive system, particularly when consumed on an empty stomach or during periods of digestive discomfort.

Licorice–fennel gut support tea

This tea is a warm herbal infusion prepared by simmering one cup of water with licorice root powder, fennel seeds, and freshly grated ginger for about 5 to 7 minutes before straining and drinking. It brings together herbs traditionally associated with digestive relief. Licorice root contains compounds such as glycyrrhizin and flavonoids that support gastric and intestinal mucosal protection.

Fennel seeds are rich in anethole, a natural compound that reduces intestinal spasms and gas formation, easing bloating and discomfort. Ginger contributes gingerols, bioactive compounds known for supporting gastric motility and overall digestive comfort.

When mixed, these ingredients produce a warming, aromatic drink that promotes smoother digestion and relieves mild gastrointestinal disturbances. Consumed warm, the tea can be particularly soothing after meals or during times when the digestive system feels unsettled.
