PM's monogrammed suit: a fashion faux pas?
It's been three days since Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Barack Obama wearing a suit with his name running all over it in pinstripes, but the brouhaha surrounding it refuses to die out. While fashion designers previously told ETPanache that the style statement was difficult to stomach, another voice has chimed in.

Ace designer Wendell Rodricks says, "It is so not cool to wear your, or anyone's name, on the exterior of a garment. Personally, I do not buy garments or accessories that shout out a brand. It is in very poor taste to have a name on a garment... whether it's your own or that of a brand. I am sure Mr Modi must regret this faux pas as it was ill-advised."

Rodricks adds, "If one is making a donation of a self-printed or woven name garment for a charitable cause, that is the only occasion where this ego flattery can be excused. A name is best hidden inside the pocket of a jacket. You wear a brand or a name. You don't let a brand or a name wear you." PMO listening?
