The earphones are designed to let in some amount of ambient noise — Plantronics calls it 'Always Aware'.

True wireless earphones are the kind that have a separate piece for the left and right ears. The BackBeat FIT 3100 falls into this category and includes the usual charging case and simple controls. It’s also IP57 rated for water/sweat resistance.
The charging case is fairly large and includes a 740mAh battery inside. The earbuds themselves are 90mAh each. That’s good enough for 5 hours of continuous use on a full charge which extends by an additional 10 hours if the case is fully charged. There’s a really tiny micro USB cable that sits permanently inside the charging case — a nice touch!
There’s not a lot of metal here — in the interests of keeping everything lightweight. Once you wear them, you can hardly feel them because of the way they just sit in the outer ear rather than ‘intrude’ into the ear canal. That being said, they just don’t fall out on their own (even while running) thanks to the flexible ear hooks. These hooks and silicon tips are non removable. So confident is Plantronics of the one-size-fits-all design that there are no additional ear tips or hooks included. The charging case is fairly large and includes a 740mAh battery inside. They’re designed to let in some amount of ambient noise — Plantronics calls it 'Always Aware'. This is great if you’re a runner or cyclist who wants to listen to music or take calls while on the road. You’ll still be able to hear someone calling out to you or traffic noises — being completely cut off is dangerous. As for sound quality, it is good but not great. This probably has something to do with the fit and the way audio gets mixed with ambient sound. Luckily, there are no problems with calls — it’s clear and loud on both sides.

Some true wireless earphones have issues keeping the audio and video in sync when streaming video on your phone. Not these ones though — they are perfect in that regard. However, they can only be connected to one device at a time. We also found it slightly odd that the left earbud sits on the right side of the charging case and vice versa. Overall a good purchase if you need something lightweight for outdoor activity. Another option you can consider is the Jabra Elite Active 65t.
