Alex Trebek vs Stephen Colbert: The trivia duel over beards

Here's why Alex Trebek and Stephen Colbert are making headlines:

That’s the host of the game and quiz show Jeopardy! Why him now?
Well, he has grown a beard.

Really. And you feel that is something to talk about?
They are saying it is the most controversial Jeopardy! decision ever.


And am told Jeopardy! has been around for more than 50 years.
Not at a stretch. But, yes, it has a history. Trebek (left) has been presenting the show since 1984.

Wow. So how is it going with the fans?
It seems to be going well. See, he is almost 80. He has done the show with a moustache earlier, and says he was just growing it back.

And then?
Apparently the moustache came along with some “friends” – or that is how he put it.

All set for the new season then?
At least one talk show host is not happy, and claims Trebek has copied his beard.

What? Who?
Late Show host Stephen Colbert (right) feels this is a copy of what he is sporting now. He even branded it as Colbeard. He has invited Trebek for a duel over the beards.

A duel? Like he wants them to try snip off each other’s beards?
No, not that dramatic. Colbert has suggested they have a battle over trivia quiz. The loser will have to shave off his beard.

Wonder what you would call such a duel.
They are calling it a beard-off.
