People spitting, urinating in public irk Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw; Biocon boss demands stricter Covid norms

NEW DELHI: A cleaner and healthier nation is a responsibility of all its citizen.

In current times, when hygiene has become a top concern, several people are expected to follow rules and healthy practices to keep the deadly virus away. However, many are flouting the regulations, and putting other people at the risk of the infection.

On Thursday, Biocon Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw stressed on the need for stricter norms to enforce wearing a mask and maintaining physical distance in public, and zoning and sealing hot spots. She said that people will continue to be in danger of uncontrollable viral infection, unless these measures are taken.


Tagging authorities like Deputy Karnataka CM Dr Ashwathnarayan CN, Bengaluru's Commissioner of Police Bhaskar Rao, Karanataka's Medical Education Minister Dr Sudhakar K and Bangalore Political Action Committee, the irked 67-year-old expressed disappointment over people violating rules by shamefully spitting and urinating in public.


The biotech top boss also agreed to a novel idea suggested by a Twitter user. One of her 1.5 million followers said that the government should offer the fine recovered from a fellow citizen if others can furnish picture proof of them violating norms such as social distancing and covering face with a mask.

She stated that self vigilance is key to successfully implementing Covid norms.


During a webinar organised by Ficci Ladies Organisation (FLO) on Saturday, Mazumdar-Shaw said that COVID-19 is an emergency, and the government needs to step up for such emergencies and look at long term planning.
