Paytm First Games hopes to create a repository of content that will promote gamified learning on Indian mythology, heritage, and sporting history.
Online gaming destination Paytm First Games today announced that it will provide a launchpad to Indian gaming studios and developers who develop content with a special focus on Indian culture and folk tales. This move comes on the back of its parent company, Paytm, launching a mini app store within its digital payments app, giving a platform to developers and business seeking an alternative to the app stores regulated by Google and Apple.
"Our country has the potential to revolutionize the digital gaming arena with innovative designs, technology, and talent. We believe it's the time to lead the digital gaming sector with Made in India games that becomes a global runaway success. Being a homegrown company we want to play our part in enabling India's gaming ecosystem. Our goal is to support over 200 talented developers, who may not have access to resources comparable to that of big studios," said Sudhanshu Gupta, COO Paytm First Games.
By taking a leading role in the publication and distribution of games, Paytm First Games hopes to create a repository of content that will promote gamified learning on Indian mythology, heritage, and sporting history. The company will organise a series of hackathons to identify talented developers and curate games that have the potential to be successful on it platform.
It plans to assist developers by providing them with technology solutions and mentorship to make their content stand out in a competitive market. The company will also promote these games on its platform, giving promising developers access to its 80-million-strong user base. Paytm First Games has earmarked Rs. 10 crore for this initiative. The company recently roped in former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador in a bid to promote its offerings, spanning online games and fantasy sport.
