Kishan Jain says his daily workout routine helps him beat stress.
“My entire extended family would gather on Sundays (pre-pandemic) to enjoy a lazy, long breakfast. I can’t wait to do that again,” says Kishan Jain, Director, Goldmedal Electricals. While the pandemic has been hard, running a business in this volatile climate has also been a challenge, but Jain says that his children have kept his spirits up. “They’ve kept me driven. We often watch movies or play games like Ludo. We also like to play football and badminton around the house.”

Jain also credits his daily workout routine for helping him beat stress. And his go-to TV show. “The Kapil Sharma Show I find is a great stress reliever,” shares Jain.

Strike a balance

When it comes to work, despite work from home, Jain says he and his colleagues are trying to stay motivated by being flexible. “We are doing our best to ensure that employee morale is high by providing leave and flexible work times that will help balance work and home life during these trying times. More than motivation, I feel employees need empathy from management and the assurance that the company will stand by them through this difficult time,” he says.

When it comes to striking a balance with his work and home life, Jain says it’s all about following a timetable. “You must set and adhere to specific working hours as far as possible. This is especially important now as we work remotely and often end up working longer than usual, which leaves us with little time to enjoy life,” he says. Secondly, making a list of daily achievable targets has helped him work effectively. “Finally, it is absolutely essential to learn to delegate work, especially when you have your hands full,” Jain advises.

While Jain has had his fair share of Zoom meetings for work, one that stands out for him has nothing to do with his professional life. It was a heartwarming Zoom call with his grandmother.

“I had a video call with my grandmother and aunt and they were so surprised to see me and my family through the phone screen. It was so heartwarming to see their reaction of pure joy! To them the possibility of this where people from different parts of the world can all come together to see each other using technology was so novel and it was something that made me smile,” he shares.

Yash Dongre Business head at House of Anita Dongre

“I have fine-tuned my baking skills. Although my wife Benaisha and I aren’t vegan, the rest of the house is. So, during the lockdown, vegan baking took centrestage. Benaisha makes the best chocolate mousse cake. It’s made with dates, almond flour and coconut milk — it’s a huge hit. I find baking therapeutic. It’s a precise activity where the outcome is as perfect as the work that goes into it. If you follow the instructions, the end result is good. I love that.”
