Pale colours dominate Golden Globes red carpet
OS ANGELES: Hollywood beauties Jennifer Lopez, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon rocked shades of white as they descended the red carpet at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards.

In their plunging gowns, embellished with sequins, glitter and jewels, the actresses looked anything but boring.

One of the most daring choices was that of Hudson, who bared her toned figure in a clinging Versace gown. The backless choice had cut-outs at the side. Accessorising with a USD 2.2 million of diamonds, the actress made a sparkling entry.

Equally eye-catching was Lopez, in a pale caped Zuhair Murad gown that combined a plunging neckline with high slash at the leg.

Witherspoon, who was nominated for best actress in a motion picture- drama for her work in 'Wild', wore a strapless silver sequined Calvin Klein gown that clung to her toned figure.

Despite grey skies and a winter chill, nominees such as Emily Blunt and Pike braved the cool weather in revealing dresses.

Pike, who welcomed her second child just a month ago, wore an ethereal layered white chiffon Vera Wang gown with daring cut-outs at the waist. She accessorised with Brian Atwood sandals, and Fred Leighton jewellery.

Also rocking white was Blunt, who arrived with her husband John Krasinski.

For pregnant actress Keira Knightley her choice was a pale high-necked delicate couture Chanel dress, embellished with butterflies and feathers. Keira was escorted by her husband, musician James Righton, who she wed in May 2013.

Salma Hayek chose white, going for a strapless Alexander McQueen ballgown in a quilted-style fabric, which she accessorised with a silver belt. For supermodel Chrissy Teigan it was a lacy night, with her white gown showing her skin through sheer panels.

E! host Giuliana Rancic looked a picture of glamour in her white Jennifer Fisher gown with fur cover-up, before swapping into a jaw-dropping fishtail gown.

Host Tina Fey stuck to the colour of the night as she wore a balloon hemline white gown with black details.

While white was the standout choice of the night, red was a popular shade for those hoping to catch the eye. And the shade certainly did the job for Heidi Klum, whose vibrant one-shouldered scarlet gown displayed her model figure to perfection.

Helen Mirren was another to tackle the shade, wowing at 69 in a body-hugging Versace gown, accessorised with Chopard earrings.

'Girls' star Lena Dunham stood out in her red gown as she arrived with her new co-star Andrew Rannells, who plays Elijah on the show.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Viola Davis went for red ballgown looks. Other ladies in red were Kristin Dos Santos, Christine Baranski and Deborah Norville.

For Jennifer Aniston it was a safe choice of black - though it was skin tight with a slit up the leg. Arriving hand-in-hand with fiance Justin Theroux, the actress, nominated for a globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama, appeared relaxed on the red carpet.

While not the most popular choice, there were plenty of stars in black outfits.

One of the most eye-catching was that of adventurous 18-year-old singer Lorde, whose black Narciso Rodriguez trouser and jacket set with bandeau top was one of the most fashion-forward of the night.

Amal Clooney, wife of Cecil B DeMille award recipient George Clooney, may be a lawyer, but she played the classic Hollywood bombshell role flawlessly while coordinating with her new husband in black and white.

Jessica Chastain was a blast from the past, in a metallic bronze Versace version of a gold Travilla dress Marilyn Monroe wore in 'Gentleman Prefer Blondes'.

Lilac was the choice of the night for Amy Adams, who won the best actress in a motion picture -comedy or musical for her role in 'Big Eyes', and Amanda Peet.

For Katie Holmes it was a more eye-catching shade of purple, in her strapless grape coloured Marchesa dress and Christian Louboutin shoes.

A rather unexpected choice was the bright sunshine yellow rocked by Naomi Watts in Gucci, Jenna Dewan Tatum, Leslie Mann and Elettra Rossellini.

While Cindy Crawford, Katherine Heigl, Kelly Osbourne and Amy Poehler wore variations of blue, Lana Del Rey, Shaun Robinson Judith Light chose shades of jade.

Uzo Aduba and Dakota Johnson wore sparkling sequined dresses.
