'Padmaavat' row: SC to hear producers' plea against ban in Gujarat, Haryana
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the plea of producers of Bollywood movie ' Padmaavat' against ban imposed on it by some state governments.

After being mired in controversy for months, ‘Padmaavat’ (originally titled ‘Padmavati’) was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification. However, despite the clearance by the Censor Board, the film has been banned in several states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.

The makers of the film had challenged the ban imposed on the film and the Supreme Court hearing is scheduled for Thursday. Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles, the film is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court had issued a contempt notice to CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi. The notice was issued after Joshi failed to respond to a representation given by a petitioner seeking a ban on the release of 'Padmaavat'.
