One Battle After Another will premiere on JioHotstar on February 26. The platform shared the update on Instagram, celebrating the film’s award success. In another post, the platform highlighted the film’s Oscar nominations and wrote, “You can bury the past, but not the consequences. Nominated for 13 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director & Best Actor, One Battle After Another, streaming February 26 onwards on JioHotstar.”

Awards run and Oscar nominations

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film has been one of the most talked-about releases of the year. It has received 13 nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards. Acting nominations have gone to DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn and Teyana Taylor. Anderson is also in the race in major categories such as Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The film had first released in theatres on September 26 and gradually built momentum through the awards season. It is also Anderson’s first directorial venture since Licorice Pizza, which had earned three Oscar nominations.

Story and cast details

The story follows Bob, a former revolutionary who now lives a quiet, off-the-grid life with his daughter, Willa. Years after stepping away from political violence, Bob is forced back into confrontation when his old enemy Lockjaw resurfaces after sixteen years. Willa’s disappearance pushes him to revisit a past he had tried to leave behind.

According to IndieWire, the film draws inspiration from Thomas Pynchon’s 1997 novel Vineland. DiCaprio plays a civil rights activist who becomes part of an anti-government group targeting a white supremacist organisation. Sean Penn plays Lockjaw, the leader of the extremist group, while the cast also includes Regina Hall, Alana Haim and Chase Infiniti, who appears as Bob’s daughter.
