Saket Saurabh, who left his cushy job to run a momo business, now earns more than Rs 2 crore per year
A young entrepreneur from Gurgaon has shared the story of how a modest roadside momo venture steadily evolved into a high-revenue food business generating crores. Saket Saurabh, the co-founder and chief executive of The Momos Mafia, began this journey after walking away from a lucrative corporate role in 2023 to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions.

In an interaction with HT.com, Saket explained that his vision was to build a distinctive, easily identifiable dumpling-focused brand for the Indian market. Despite earning over ₹50 lakh annually in a secure job, he chose to take a calculated risk and channel his energy into creating something of his own. That decision marked the foundation of The Momos Mafia.

Today, the brand operates through a franchise-driven model and has expanded its footprint across seven states in India. According to Saket, the business has crossed ₹5 crore in cumulative revenue within a span of two-and-a-half years, reflecting both rapid growth and strong consumer demand.

Recently, Saket posted a video on Instagram describing his decision to resign from a high-paying job to start a momo business. In the post, he highlighted the journey from a simple street-side setup to a structured franchise network, stressing that each milestone was achieved through consistent effort and that the venture is still in its early phase. The clip struck a chord online, attracting nearly three lakh views along with a wave of reactions and comments.

Saket also clarified that entrepreneurship was not new territory for him. After completing his education at NIFT Delhi in 2014, he went on to co-establish a startup called Wowflux. Following its acquisition by FlixStock, he continued with the company as a product manager. By the time he resigned in September 2023, his annual package had reached ₹52 lakh.

The roots of The Momos Mafia can be traced back to a smaller experiment. While still employed, Saket partnered with his sister and brother-in-law to run Bamboo Cafe in Gurgaon. The outlet offered a wide menu ranging from parathas to biryani, but momos quickly emerged as the top-selling item. In its first year, the business recorded revenues of ₹16 lakh. During the final quarter of the 2023–24 financial year alone, the same amount was generated in just three months. The following year closed at ₹2.2 crore, and the current year has already matched that figure, with projections touching ₹3 crore by year-end.
