It’s no surprise that the demonetisation announcement has affected weddings in India. But there seems to be some good coming out of it too. A well-known fashion designer says that he personally knows of weddings that were to take place outside the country but are now being hosted in either Rajasthan or Goa. A few days after the big announcement, the number of calls to hotels in both the states doubled and suddenly they had more business than expected. Among those who shifted the wedding venues is a family in the alcohol business. Almost heaving a sigh of relief, the designer says that most wedding parties are still going ahead with their choice of outfits and jewellery. Trimmings are happening in the choice of location, decor and other such frills, says this designer-cum-event planner. All’s well that ends well for some.
