Art collectors are known to go to great lengths to ensure that their collection is safe and more importantly, insured. But a fire at an iconic Mumbai building, also housing the residence of this art connoisseur, took with it high-worth prints. The gutted work included over 20 oleographs of artist Raja Ravi Varma, collected by the connoisseur’s father.

While they were not original paintings of Varma, the oleographs were nonetheless of value. So, why weren’t these insured? “Who would have thought such a thing would happen?” came the reply. Well, you live and learn. Or else you witness a version of cash burn.
