Muhammad Ali’s famous quote ‘Float like a butterfly sting like a bee’ may have to change for Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud who won the FIFA Puskas Award for a scorpion-kick goal.

“It’s an honour for me,” said Giroud after accepting the award at a ceremony held at the London Palladium. Giroud’s outstanding goal against Crystal Palace was voted the winner, beating Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos and South African goal keeper Oscarine Masuluke. Here’s a guide to his fancy footwork:

The scorpion kick is also known as a reverse bicycle kick or back hammer kick.

The move looks almost like a forward cartwheel and involves throwing the body forwards, placing the hands on the ground to kick the back heels in front so as to kick an approaching football.

The move gets its name from the player’s resemblance to a scorpion’s tail while performing the kick.

Colombian goalkeeper René Higuita is attributed with the invention of this advanced football skill.
