Obsession OTT release date: The superhit horror film everyone is talking about to stream online. When and where to watch?

Curry Barker's supernatural psychological horror film Obsession has turned into one of the most unexpected success stories of the year. Made on a reported budget of just around $750,000, the independent horror thriller has gone on to achieve remarkable box-office numbers worldwide and has also found a strong audience in India. With its theatrical run still attracting viewers, many fans are now waiting for the film's digital release.

Obsession OTT release details

After weeks of speculation, Obsession is set to become available for digital purchase and rental on June 30, 2026, as per Times Now. Audiences will be able to buy or rent the film through platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home and other premium video-on-demand services.

The digital release comes after Focus Features decided to extend the movie's theatrical run. The studio had originally planned to make the film available digitally on June 2. However, strong ticket sales convinced the distributor to delay those plans and keep the movie in cinemas for a longer period.


Reports noted that on June 2 alone, the film earned another $5.7 million in theatres, reinforcing the decision to postpone its home release.

While the June 30 release allows viewers to rent or purchase the film, it is not the official subscription streaming debut.

The streaming release date has not yet been announced. Since Focus Features operates under Universal Pictures, industry observers expect Obsession to eventually arrive on Peacock in the United States. In India, viewers are also watching closely for updates, with expectations that the film could become available on platforms that carry Peacock content in the country. However, no official announcement has been made so far.

What is Obsession about?

The story follows Bear, also known as Baron Bailey, played by Michael Johnston. He is deeply in love with his childhood friend Nikki, portrayed by Inde Navarrette. After discovering a mysterious supernatural object known as the One Wish Willow, Bear makes a wish for Nikki to fall in love with him.

The wish appears to work, but things quickly spiral out of control. Nikki's affection becomes increasingly intense and disturbing, turning what initially looks like a romantic fantasy into a frightening nightmare. As events unfold, the consequences become deadly, pushing the story into dark psychological territory.

The supporting cast includes Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter.

Box-office success breaks records

Obsession has become one of the biggest independent horror successes in recent years. The film reportedly surpassed the worldwide earnings of The Blair Witch Project, which had long held the record as the highest-grossing film acquisition in cinema history.

The movie also moved past the global box-office total of Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning horror hit Get Out. Its theatrical performance stood out because it continued attracting audiences through positive word-of-mouth, with several weekends showing growth instead of the usual decline seen after opening week.

Curry Barker reacts to the film's popularity in India

Speaking to Variety India about the movie's strong performance in the country, director Curry Barker admitted he never expected such a response.

“I definitely did not expect Obsession to be a big hit in India. I didn’t expect it to be a big hit anywhere, really. You hope and dream that your movie is successful and that it resonates with people. But I can’t believe what it’s doing. I mean, we made this movie for nothing. I just can’t believe that it’s getting the recognition that it’s getting.”
