O Romeo OTT release: Two-phase rollout explained
The film is set to release on Amazon Prime Video, but not in the usual way where it just drops for all subscribers on one day. Instead, it is following a staggered pattern which has become quite common now.As per multiple reports and announcements during the platform’s slate reveal, O Romeo will first be available on rent starting March 27, 2026. This means viewers who want early access will have to pay separately and watch it through the platform’s store feature. The rental window is expected to stay for a couple of weeks.
After that, the film is likely to shift to regular streaming for all Prime subscribers. While there is no officially locked date yet, trade reports are pointing towards the second week of April, with April 10 being mentioned in some updates as a possible timeline.
What the film is about
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, O Romeo is set in the 1990s Mumbai underworld and mixes crime with a tragic love story. The story follows a gangster whose life starts to fall apart when he gets pulled into an intense relationship. What begins as something emotional soon turns violent, with revenge, gang conflicts and personal loss all coming into the picture. The narrative is said to be inspired by Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai and also draws from real-life elements linked to the underworld.
At the centre of it is the connection between a contract killer and a woman driven by revenge, and how that dynamic keeps shifting as the story moves ahead.
Cast and performances
Along with Shahid Kapoor, the film features Triptii Dimri in a key role. The supporting cast includes Avinash Tiwary, Nana Patekar, Vikrant Massey, and Farida Jalal, among others. The film opened to mixed reviews and its box office run remained moderate, with reports suggesting it did not fully meet expectations despite having a decent initial run and limited competition at the time.
