Marriage to Nikhil Jain not legal, separated long back: Nusrat Jahan
Following months of speculation, it’s officially splitsville for Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan. On Wednesday, the actress-turned-politician put all rumours to rest and released a statement on her separation from her husband Nikhil Jain.
The 31-year-old Basirhat MP in her statement said that she does not need to get divorced as her marriage with Jain was never valid under Indian law. As it was an interfaith wedding solemnised on foreign land as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, it was considered invalid under the Special Marriage Act in India, she added.

The MP, who has been seen accompanying Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at many public events, also said in her statement that “as per the Court of Law, it's not marriage but relationship/live-in.”
Reiterating that for the sake of privacy, she did not divulge details on the separation, which she claimed had “happened happened long back”.
“Our separation happened long back but I did not speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself,” Jahan was quoted as saying.

Without taking any names, she also said in her statement that the “one who claims to be rich” has been taking money from her bank account.
Nusrat Jahan waves towards supporters at Sarberia during her political campaign in March 2019. “I have already taken this up with the concerned banking authority and a police complaint shall be filed shortly. In the past, details of all family accounts were handed over to him, upon his requests and none of me or my family members was aware of any instructions given to the bank via our accounts. He has also been mishandling my funds from various accounts without my knowledge and consent. I am still battling it out with the bank & if need be, would release proof of the same,” the statement read.
The MP also alleged her assets and jewellery have been illegally held back.
Jahan, who made her cinema debut with Raj Chakraborty’s ‘Shotru’, had tied the knot with the businessman at Bodrum in Turkey in 2019 after she won the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat.
