UK-based smartphone brand, Nothing, is gearing up for the grand launch of its first smartphone. The Nothing phone (1). The smartphone will be officially launched across the globe on July 12.

While only a few weeks left for the launch, the smartphone has already been making waves on social media. Several leaks have hinted at the design, price and specifications of the upcoming smartphone.

According to the latest reports, the smartphone will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ processor. Incidentally, the same has been confirmed by founder Carl Pei. According to inputmag.com, Nothing has confirmed that it will use the mid-range chip in its upcoming smartphone.

This development has ruled out the possibility of Nothing phone (1) competing with the likes of high-end smartphones from Samsung and OnePlus most of which use Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

The Snapdragon 778G+ processor is pretty much similar to the Snapdragon 778G according to the report. However, the processor on Nothing phone (1) will have an eight-cor CPU comprising four performance (ARM Cortex-A78) and four efficiency cores, Adreno 642L GPU and X53 5G modem.

Essentially the plus here is the wireless charging and reverse wireless charging support on the Nothing phone (1). The brand has informed the portal that Qualcomm added these two features specifically for the Nothing phone (1).

Nothing co-founder Pei reportedly told the portal that the mid-range chip has been used owing to its performance, power consumption and cost. Pei said that more powerful processors have ‘diminishing returns’ and mid-range chip offers good enough performance. It is to be noted that high-end chips such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1 add to the cost of the smartphone.
