Bengaluru creator says money can offer peace of mind
Makhija said having a steady flow of money can be one of the biggest factors in calming the nervous system. However, she clarified that her argument is not about being able to afford expensive restaurants, shopping or nights out. Instead, she pointed to having Rs 20-30 lakh saved in the bank as a financial cushion that can make unexpected situations feel less overwhelming.According to Makhija, such savings can offer reassurance even if someone loses their job, needs to support their parents or faces a healthcare crisis. Having money set aside, she said, means you do not have to constantly worry about what might happen next.
‘Therapy is fine, reading books is fine’
Makhija also addressed the growing focus on managing stress through therapy, books and other wellness practices. While she acknowledged that these approaches can help, she argued that they may not solve the underlying problem when financial insecurity is fuelling anxiety. She said people need to address the root cause of why their nervous system is constantly acting up, adding that financial stability can help them feel more confident about navigating life. For Makhija, the value of savings also comes from knowing that the money has been earned independently. She described it as a personal cushion that can provide support when circumstances suddenly change.
Why she keeps talking about money?
Makhija acknowledged that she receives criticism for being a creator who frequently discusses money. However, she said her perspective comes from what she has observed among founders in Bengaluru. She claimed that founders without consistent cash flow often struggle across different areas of their lives, while those who have achieved financial stability may have greater freedom and confidence, even if every aspect of their lives is not perfect.Having witnessed this difference firsthand, Makhija said she intends to continue speaking about financial security despite the criticism.

The post sparked a debate online. One user argued that a calm nervous system can also help people make money. Another said stable cash flow prevents the mind from constantly preparing for the next crisis. A commenter agreed that financial security can provide a sense of safety, but stressed that Rs 20 lakh is not a universal threshold. Others countered that a calm mind can help build wealth, while one user said even Rs 30 lakh may not be enough, suggesting Rs 5 crore in liquid assets instead. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
