Manjrekar's actions, and apparent “jibe” at Bhogle (R), earned him notoriety on Twitter for his “arrogance”, “ high-handedness” and “rudeness”.
India trumped Bangladesh on Sunday in a dramatic encounter at the maiden pink-ball, day-night Test in Kolkata. The hosts dominated the visitors at the historic Eden Garden in a breathtaking encounter that ended with an innings and 46-runs win for Virat Kohli & Co.
As Team India trounced the visitors on the pitch, there was another battle of wits and wisdom that was being played out on-air. And it was right in the commentary box between Sanjay Manjrekar and Harsha Bhogle.
During his commentary, the 58-year-old Bhogle suggested that they needed to do a proper post-mortem after the pink-ball Test. He also posed on air that the feedback of the players be taken into account, and if they had faced any problems regarding the ball’s visibility.
Manjrekar, who himself made his Test debut against the West Indies in 1987, and has played 37 matches, did not take too well to Bhogle’s comment. He retorted with a quip, "only you need to ask, Harsha, not us, who have played a fair bit of the game," implying at his own body of work on the field.
And even as the Test came to its logical conclusion, Twitterati didn’t want to let go of the cricketing action on Sunday. Soon an online rant against Manjrekar took over, with the hashtag #Manjrekar trending through the evening.
The former cricketer’s actions, and apparent “jibe” at the IIM grad, earned him notoriety on the micro-blogging platform for his “arrogance”, “ high-handedness” and “rudeness”.

Manjrekar himself doesn’t seem too perturbed by all the online love and attention he received. On Monday morning, he quoted American novelist Chuck Palahniuk as he wrote about creating a legacy that lives on.

Manjrekar is no stranger to controversy. Earlier this year, during the 2019 World Cup, he found himself in a bit of a spot after he commented that Ravindra Jadeja is a "bits and pieces cricketer" leading to a backlash on Twitter.
