Preity Zinta in traditional topi in Himachal Pradesh
For the unversed, Preity Zinta was born and educated in Himachal Pradesh before she made a name for herself in the film industry in Mumbai. Now that she is back in her hometown for a short vacation, the actress seems to have embraced her Himachali roots in a lovely, fashion-forward way.
In the snap, Preity Zinta can be seen smiling at the camera while taking a selfie. She dons a bright green-coloured cap, with red, orange and brown borders on the top. White flower adornments drooping from one side added to the allure. Her side note read, ‘Loving every bit of my short and sweet trip to Himachal for a much-needed break from the heat and the IPL. The mountains are so magical.’
All you need to know about Kinnauri topi
According to a report by Bhutticoshawls, the Himachali cap is a sign of identity and respect. People in the state wear them during traditional dance performances, marriage functions, festivals, and even daily work. What’s more, each region has its own unique cap featuring various colours and patterns. The Kinnauri topi, won by Preity Zinta, comes in the classic green shade. It is inspired by Kinnauri shawls, which stand for peace and prosperity, linked to the region's old trade relations with Tibet.
The white flowers are the common decorative elements of the Kinnauri topi, made from a tree called Arlu, reported Bhutticoshawls. This flower is often handcrafted and attached to the cap, symbolising purity and adding a touch of elegance. As per Himkatha, the headwear is colloquially called “Tepang” or “Khunnu Tiwi”, crafted from local wool yarn. Previously, the Tepangs were domestically made at home, but they are woven only in a few cluster villages now.
Preity Zinta’s post received much love from fans. ‘Himachal just got prettier. The cap, the smile, the vibe — absolutely magical,’ gushed a user. ‘Mountains really look even more Magical with your vibe,’ agreed another. ‘Enjoy the peaceful vibes and well-deserved break from the IPL hustle,’ noted an individual. Many wanted to know whether she would be attending the next Punjab Kings match.
