He is Bollywood’s original Rs 100-crore star, brings crowds to the theatres like no one in the industry, and sets the cash registers ringing. Salman Khan, who turns 53 today, is the richest Indian celebrity in 2018, according to Forbes.
And it’s not just the actors that he has left behind, but also Indian skipper Virat Kohli who follows at number 2; to put that into perspective – Khan’s stardom is bigger even for a nation that is obsessed with cricket.
But it’s not the first time that the ‘Dabangg’ actor has topped the list; rather it’s his third consecutive year on top. This year, the star performer’s earnings are pegged at Rs 253.25 crore, according to Forbes.
While the commercial success of his movies ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and ‘Race 3’ have cemented his place in the top spot, it’s also endorsements - his TV shows, and production house - that make him a money machine. Bhai – as he is fondly called by fans – also joined George Clooney on Forbes’ world's top 10 highest-paid actors list.
Khan knows his mass appeal; take for example ‘Bigg Boss’ - the reality TV show that he has been hosting since 2010. If reports are to be believed, the actor’s fee has gone up from Rs 2.5 crore per episode to Rs. 12-14 crore per episode over the years. He also has another show ‘Dus Ka Dum’ in his kitty.

And then, there are the businesses, Being Human – the fashion accessories and apparel brand, his production house Salman Khan Films, and a television production company Salman Khan TV. The actor even has a minority stake in Yatra.com.
Add to all this, his advertisement deals that range from Dixcy Scott to Parle Agro’s Appy Fizz, and Khan is the ideal recipe for building that bank balance.
There's a certain charm to the actor that keeps him going, it’s despite his bad boy history that he manages to channel a Robin Hood image, and his stardom only seems to be increasing.
