Norms violated during Amitabh Bachchan's event: Anti-noise activist
MUMBAI: An anti-noise activist has said she will approach Maharashtra Government over violations of noise levels at an event here which saw Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan's first appearance as the state's tiger ambassador.

Bachchan handed over two new buses for the Sanjay Gandhi National Park tiger safari at a function held here yesterday.

The programme was held within the national park with loudspeakers, powerful lights after sunset, said Sumaira Abdulali, an anti-noise activist.

"It is not appropriate for the event to be held at the location where it was held, considering the norms," Abdulali told PTI.

"National parks across the country are silence zones," she said, adding, no light or sound is allowed inside the park after sunset so that animals are not disturbed.

The government's clarification that the event was held outside the notified area is lame, she said.

"The fact is that the event was a nuisance for wild animals," she added.

Meanwhile, forests minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said the event was held in the tourist area and no rules were violated.
