Nobody can make the exact replica of my work, says artist Thota Vaikuntam
Renowned artist Thota Vaikuntam was asked, "What do you do when you see copies of your paintings?"

The artist said, “Nobody can make the exact replica of my work. My technique is different. But I have seen copies of my work many times. Once, I was shocked to find copies of my smaller works on a large canvas. I went up to the painter, pointed at a fake, and asked him whether he knew whose artwork it was. He said, ‘It’s Vaikuntam’s’."

"When I asked him who Vaikuntam was, he said he didn’t know him, but he had seen his paintings and made the bigger copies. He was selling them for Rs 3,000. I thought, jaane do. My painting is easy to decipher. One can easily figure out that it is a copy. My teacher, Mani da [KG Subramanyan], once told me that if the people who pay so much money don’t understand our paintings, then why are they buying it?”.
