NEW DELHI: If Team India's defeat on Wednesday against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-finals left you teary-eyed, you're not alone. While the entire nation was mourning the loss that sent India back to the pavilion, cricketer Mithali Raj and footballer Sunil Chhetri had some comforting words for Virat Kohli & Co. And coming from them, both seasoned sportspersons themselves, it brought some solace.

Raj, the India ODI skipper for women's cricket, took to Twitter to share that Wednesday's debacle at Old Trafford reminded her of their own 2017 World Cup final defeat.

The 36-year-old wrote that she was familiar with the heartbreak that a World Cup loss evokes, but stressed that it is important to go on. "The nation loves its Men in Blue no matter what," she added, reassuringly.

India had lost the ICC Women's World Cup 2017 final against England by nine runs. Mithali Raj-led side was in a brilliant position to lift its first-ever trophy but Anya Shrubsole's six-wicket haul had snatched India's happiness.

Meanwhile, the Indian football team captain, Chhetri, praised India's skipper for leading a 'proud' team. The 34-year-old emphasised on the fantastic journey that they carried out, and hoped for the Kohli-led squad to move on.
