Anand Mahindra is back with his ‘Sunday Wanderer’ series. For the unversed, the billionaire industrialist is a true-blue travel enthusiast. He often shares delightful glimpses of offbeat locations, picturesque spots and popular landmarks across India on his official X handle, triggering our wanderlust. This time was no different. The latest destination that has caught the eye of Mahindra is Gangavaram Beach, near Visakhapatnam, about 26 km from the city centre. But there’s an unconventional reason why the place has found a spot in Mahindra’s heart.

Anand Mahindra on Gangavaram Beach, Visakhapatnam

Anand Mahindra began his post with a question: ‘Why isn’t this one of India’s most talked-about coastal landscapes?’ The industrialist justified his question with the fact that Gangavaram Beach is not a conventional tropical destination.

The beach does not have rows of swaying palm or coconut trees, nor does it boast lush green, picture-perfect and postcard-worthy scenery. However, Anand Mahindra clarified that Gangavaram Beach possesses a kind of raw beauty with its majestically rugged and rocky cliffs that seem ‘almost prehistoric’.

Why Anand Mahindra finds Gangavaram Beach beautiful

According to Anand Mahindra, he finds ‘this kind of raw beauty even more compelling’ as it beckons a person without even trying, not just for relaxation but for reflection.

Highlighting an irony, the 71-year-old noted, ‘The world’s technology giants are arriving in Vizag to build hyperscale data centres & AI infrastructure. But…nature got into the hyperscaling business here millions of years ago.’

You can either take a stroll along the coastline or enjoy a hearty picnic with friends or family here. For spiritual seekers, there’s also a Krishna Temple opposite a hill. The Maghapournami festival, held every year in February and March, is a must-visit.
