Simple homemade treats are far more satisfying when they come without complicated techniques, long hours in the kitchen or a never-ending list of ingredients. For many, making bakery-style desserts at home can seem time-consuming. But certain recipes can make cravings easier to manage while also adding nutritional value to the plate. Mumbai nutritionist Vanshika Khurana has shared an easy apple pie recipe on Instagram that requires no oven or baking. Ready in just 15 minutes, the recipe packs 3g of fibre, making it a guilt-free dessert option.

Apple pie recipe: Ingredients required

To make the apple pie, all you need is 1 large, cubed apple, 1 tsp of butter, 3-4 chopped walnuts (optional), 1 tsp cinnamon, a pinch of salt, 1 tsp cornstarch to make a slurry, 1 tsp zero-calorie sweetener, 2-3 tbsp water, and 4 -16 cm rice paper sheets.

To make the rice paper milk mix, all you need is 150ml milk, 1 tbsp cornstarch, ½ tbsp oil, and a pinch of cinnamon. For the optional yoghurt dressing, you need 100g Skyr, ½ tbsp peanut butter, ½ scoop protein powder, 1 tsp zero-calorie sweetener, and a pinch of salt. The dressing contains approximately 200 calories and 25g protein.

Apple pie: How to make

To prepare the apple pie, first, the butter is added to a pan, followed by walnuts and cubed apple. They are cooked for 3-4 minutes until the apples soften. Cinnamon, salt, sweetener and water are then added. The cornstarch slurry is stirred in and cooked until the filling turns thick and jammy, with no watery syrup remaining. The filling is allowed to cool completely before rolling.

Next, the milk, cornstarch, oil and cinnamon are mixed to prepare the dipping mixture. Each rice paper sheet is dipped for about 2 seconds, then two sheets are stacked together. The apple filling is added and rolled tightly like a burrito. The rolls are lightly brushed with oil and air-fried at 190°C for 12-16 minutes, flipping halfway. For extra crunch, they are air-fried at 200°C for another 2-3 minutes before serving with the sweet yogurt dip.
