He is counted amongst the country’s highest paid bankers, and is credited with building a solid organisation. Perhaps that’s what gives HDFC Bank’s top boss Aditya Puri certain bragging rights. While giving his acceptance speech at an award ceremony, held in the capital, the banker shared that he once told Jamie Dimon (CEO, J P Morgan) that his bank’s systems are better than Dimon’s, and that Dimon agreed on that.
Puri’s words were met with applause, as were some of his earlier comments in the 10-minute speech. He feels that we shouldn’t “mistake the noise of a very noisy vibrant democracy with the actual strength of India”.

Echoing the words of his “friend” Nandan Nilekani who spoke before Puri, the banker said, “I agree with Nandan. India doesn’t leapfrog. We pole vault.” How’s that for some inspiration?
