When it comes to landing your dream job, nothing beats patience and perseverance. Taking to the subreddit Indian Flex, a tech professional revealed how he went from earning a modest Rs 37,000 per month to a whopping Rs 2.2 crore package after just 11 years.

His first job was in 2015 with a consulting company. It paid just Rs 37,000 per month, but the job taught him a lot. In just four years, he reached a salary close to Rs 1 lakh per month, but he felt the job had become stagnant, so he switched to a FAANG-level company in 2019 with a package of Rs 44 LPA. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the workload became too much for his mental health, and he quit without any job offer in mid-2020.

Within a couple of months, he secured a position at a US-based real estate startup. Since he was unemployed at the time, he did not receive a particularly large hike, but the new role came with an annual package of ₹50 lakh. His progress was rapid. He was promoted within eight months, taking his compensation to ₹65 lakh. Following the annual appraisal, his package climbed further to almost ₹70 lakh by the end of 2021.

From 2022 to 2024, he tried his hand at entrepreneurship but faced hurdles such as licence-related issues. By March 2024, the business outlook had deteriorated considerably. He continued trying to make the venture work for several more months, but the departure of one of his co-founders eventually convinced him that continuing would be extremely difficult. He resumed his job search in August 2024.

In October 2024, he landed a tech leadership job at an Indian startup with a package worth a whopping Rs 1.2 crore. However, within three months, he felt the environment was toxic and wasn’t a good fit for him, so he left the job.

In early 2025, he landed a dream job – a position at a FAANG company with a Rs 1.5 crore salary package. He received a promotion in 2026, and his current salary sits pretty at Rs 2.2 crore LPA, with an increase in stock.

At the end of his post, the techie shared that he did not graduate from a tier 1 college and did not come from an affluent background, so this success did feel like a flex.

One Redditor asked if he excelled in tech stack, to which he replied, "It was Kotlin/Swift to start with. To backend development after the first switch. Have been in backend development ever since. It’s mostly Java/Kotlin plus Golang here and there. To be frank with Claude and OpenAI, coding model languages have kind of become less important these days.”

Another Reddit user also opened up about his own career progression, describing how his compensation increased significantly within a few years of entering the workforce. He revealed that he began his professional career in 2022 with a salary of around ₹55,000 per month, equivalent to an annual package of approximately ₹8 lakh.
