Gen Z candidate calls out hiring practices
Recently, career counsellor Simon Ingari shared a post on X, where he recounted the story of one such Gen Z employee who, despite being rejected by a company, gave such a response to the HR that it left him completely stunned.
In the post, Simon Ingari described how a Gen Z candidate walked into an interview that began an hour late. When the HR apologised for the delay, the candidate calmly pointed out that they had taken their precious time off work and that such delays wasted their time. Her words left the room momentarily silent.
Gen Z professional makes sharp remark
During the salary discussion, the Gen Z employee expressed disappointment, stating that the offer felt below her expectations and that the salary range should have been disclosed in the job listing prior. To this, the HR explained that remuneration ranges are often withheld to avoid attracting applicants focused solely on pay. The candidate responded with a sharp yet composed question: ‘What money?’ that caught the panel off guard.
A week later, the company informed the candidate that they had chosen someone else. In response, the Gen Z applicant simply wished the HR good luck in finding someone who could tolerate the ‘broken culture’ of the organisation.
The exchange stood out not for any confrontation, but for its clarity. The employee did not create unnecessary drama, did not show disrespect, but just spurted the facts bluntly and on face, reflecting a growing refusal among Gen Z professionals to compromise on their expectations and speaking their mind without any inhibitions.
