Nithin Kamath wants schools to start teaching finance basics, says such life lessons are helpful

Nithin Kamath, the chief Executive Officer of Zerodha, on Friday hightlighted the importance of teaching children the basics on finance in school.

Kamath took to his official Twitter handle to explain why its important to teach kids how to manage money in different ways such as starting investment early in life, retirement planning and much more.

He gave an example of an equation. Kamath said that he still remembers that the formula of CH3OH is Methanol, which he learnt in school. Similarly, if kids were taught finance basics in school in the same manner, then they'd remember those too, Kamath said.

In next tweet, the Zerodha CEO shared a video where BJP MP Tejasvi Surya is heard saying that many young Indians aren't equipped with financial management skills.
The minister said that as young Indians enter the job market, they lack the money management skills as they were never taught the basics in school as financial literacy isn't part of our formal education system.

“A larger number of young Indians are entering the job market for the first time, they are also entering the middle class for the first time. However, we see that a large number of young Indians are not equipped with important money management skills because we do not financial literacy as a part of the formal education system,” the minister is heard saying in the video.

Agreeing with Surya's statement, Kamath offered to help with the thought.

"Thanks, @Tejasvi_Surya, for bringing this up at the parliament. We have the experience of running @ZerodhaVarsity, amongst the largest free educational platforms on financial education. We (@karthikrangappa) would love to help @EduMinOfIndia in any way,” he tweeted.
