Nirmala Sitharaman's picture-perfect moment with Gita Gopinath ahead of G20 meet goes viral

The IMF economist took to Twitter to share a picture with the FM.

Nirmala Sitharaman and Gita Gopinath were twinning in hues of rose.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with Gita Gopinath, the first deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on Thursday evening, ahead of the G20 ministerial meeting.

The IMF economist took to Twitter to share a picture with the FM. "It was really nice to catch up with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the G20 FMCBG (Finance Minister and Central Bank Governors) meeting in Bengaluru. Lots of good discussions," her caption read.



For the event, Sitharaman opted for a red silk saree with a black and gold border, and paired it with a black blouse with gold prints. On the other hand, Gopinath wore a pink chiffon saree with embellishments and a heavy border.

In around 12 hours, the post got 855.5K views. It was liked by more than 29K people and was retweeted over 1,500 times. Sitharaman also retweeted Gopinath's post.

In awe of the image of the economists, netizens have been praising the two, calling them 'graceful', 'powerful' and 'inspiring'.

Gopinath also shared a picture with Nadia Calvino, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy in Spain, was also opted for a saree for the special meet. She said that Calvino always contributes towards helping solve global issues and makes an attempt to fit in perfectly.


Meanwhile, the FM also met Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel ahead of the G20 FMCBG meeting. The official Twitter handle of Ministry of Finance shared a picture of the duo.

On Thursday, the FM underlined the need for a global framework to regulate cryptocurrencies besides firming up ways to tackle global debt vulnerabilities and strengthening multilateral development banks. She discussed these topics during the bilateral meetings with her counterparts, including from the US, Japan and Spain, ahead of the G20 ministerial meeting.

The first G20 FMCBG meeting is being held in Bengaluru, starting Friday (February 24).

The finance ministers of the G20 countries, which is a grouping of developed and developing nations, are in India's Silicon Valley to participate in the two-day meeting of G20 FMCBG.
