Nicolas Cage hints at True Detective season 5

Cage surprised attendees at New York Comic-Con when he suggested that True Detective could be his next television project. The actor spoke candidly about the demands of making films consecutively and the practical considerations behind his possible move to television. As reported by Rolling Stone, Cage said that one could only make so many movies “back to back to back” before necessity prompted a change. He also joked about the financial motivation, saying he needed to “feed the family”, before hinting that he might take on a season of True Detective.

Cage ended his remarks by asking whether it was all right for him to be the first to announce the news.

HBO renewed True Detective after Night Country

HBO picked up a fifth season of True Detective in February 2024, shortly after the fourth instalment, titled Night Country, wrapped up. The season drew strong viewership and earned more critical praise than the anthology’s previous two instalments. Created initially by Nic Pizzolatto and later by Issa López, True Detective is an anthology crime drama in which each season tells a largely self-contained story. New settings, characters and cast ensembles give every instalment a distinct mystery while retaining the series’ focus on crime and investigation.

The show premiered on HBO on January 12, 2014. Its first season received widespread acclaim for its performances, writing, cinematography and direction, establishing the series as a prominent title in the crime-drama genre.
