Nick Jonas wants to help people identify the 'common' type-1 diabetes signs early.
Type-1 diabetes is not reversible. Neither the exact cause nor the means to prevent it are known.
In type-1 diabetes, the immune system mistakenly attacks the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas, leading to little or no insulin production. Since insulin plays an important role in the absorption of glucose from the bloodstream, its sudden drop leads to an increase in the blood glucose level.
According to the World Health Organization, around nine million people were living with type -1 diabetes in 2017.
Singer Nick Jonas, who was diagnosed with the condition when he was a teenager, took to social media during the weekend to reveal the first type-1 diabetes signs he noticed.
Hoping to help people identify the 'common signs' early, the 30-year-old shared that he experienced excessive thirst, weight loss, frequent urination and irritability after which he visited the doctor.

Last November, on National Diabetes Month in the US, the actor-singer revealed that it was the 16th anniversary of his diagnosis. He was 13 when he first felt something wasn’t right. He said he went to his parents and told them he needed to see a doctor.

After he shared his symptoms, Jonas's paediatrician said that he was suffering from type-1 diabetes. The doctor told him that his symptoms were in line with an undiagnosed condition.
Frightened by his diagnosis, he felt his dream of touring the world and playing music had come to an end, but he said he was committed to turning things around. He said his family and doctors have been an 'incredible' support system in his life during tough days.
"I was devastated - frightened… Did this mean my dream of touring the world and playing our music had to end? But I was committed, just like I always have been, to not letting it slow me down. There are tough days but I have an incredible support system I can rely on to help me push through and not be hard on myself when I’m feeling low," his November 2021 post read.
Many celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Kamal Haasan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, among others, have also opened up about their type-1 diabetes diagnosis.

Recently, Jonas shared an adorable picture with his actress-wife Priyanka Chopra and daughter Malti Marie.
This picture of PeeCee playing with her baby girl as Jonas adorably looks at the mother-daughter duo was clicked right after the actress returned home from her brief India visit.
Chopra also shared the same picture, with the caption, "Home." Jonas reacted to the post with a heart emoji in the comment section.
Priyanka-Nick tied the knot in a Christian and a Hindu ceremony in Jodhpur's Umaid Bhawan Palace on December 1 and 2 in 2018. Later, the couple hosted two receptions in Delhi and Mumbai.
In January 2022, the two surprised the world when they announced the arrival of their daughter via surrogacy.
